Known as the “fourth” Virgin, Water Island is a charming residential community where residents buzz about on golf carts, dodging their fellow inhabitants – the many large turtles that amble the island’s terrain. Just a 7-minute ferry ride from St. Thomas, and minutes from the St. Thomas airport, Water Island is about 2.5 miles long, half a mile wide, encompassing just under 500 acres and is home to fewer than 200 residents. Golf carts are the preferred method of transportation on Water Island, which is accessible by an hourly ferry, or your own dinghy. Honeymoon Beach is a destination for residents and boaters alike, featuring movie nights, concessions for lunch and dinner, as well as live music offerings. Occupying about one-third of Water Island is the gated community of Sprat Bay with 52 residential lots and 34 dedicated non-development “green space” lots. If you’re moving to the US Virgin Islands and looking for a quiet, bucolic retreat, Spray Bay offers its own pier, as well as an exclusive beach and pavilion and a private tennis court for Sprat Bay residents.
