As a veteran of the East End of St. Thomas, I now find myself happily, merrily, tropically nestled on the island’s far West End. The plethora of restaurants, stores, gyms, groceries, ferries – all gone. Instead, I stare out at nuclear-sized leaves, colorful spikey plants, orchids in bloom and even a view of the airport over the ocean.
Suddenly, I am loving the airport view – one I used to consider, well, too mechanical. Now, it’s kind of exciting. Since I can hardly ever board a plane bound for STT without knowing someone on it – I find myself thinking – Who do I know on THAT plane? There’s connection where I never expected it – both to the changed view and the change in lifestyle. The long drive west from previously well-established haunts is actually charming. The roadsides are clean the farther west you get, and the trip over the northside of the mountain is breath taking.
And mosquitos – there simply aren’t as many mosquitos out here!
Meanwhile, I’ve got an adorable rental in Estate Pearl – the west side of the island – that is ready to charm the romantic. A stand-alone cottage in a gated homestead with a lovely garden and a talk-into-the-evening porch. Call me and come see it!
